Queen of My World

Since this is my first post I have decided to keep it simple, not drag you down with my vast knowledge of all things. But first, I am going to put my glasses on, this type is so small, maybe I am just getting old.

I read a book yesterday called Figures in Silk, by Vanora Bennett. I was drawn to the book because it seemed like it could be real. The book was about Princess Elizabeth and her quest to become the Queen of England but the story was not told through her it was told through a silkwoman named Isabel Lambert. Of course there were twists and scheming showing little moral character on the part of most of the people involved. Because the story took place during the time of King Edwards’ ten year reign prior to his death and the bad brother King Richards ascent to the thrown there was a lot of innocent blood shed, obviously the author took care of this discreetly so you barely knew anyone was being killed. In the end, King Richard is killed by Henry Tudor who was seeking Princess Elizabeth’s hand in marriage. Princess Elizabeth became the queen and they all lived happily ever after, except for all the people who didn’t.

I enjoy reading and for whatever reason I am enjoying old world stories right now. Actually anything that is older than our near past. My favorites are those books that I never really finish and by that I mean the ones that I cannot ever quite get away from. They are written so well that you cannot help but wonder about the times in which the story takes place. Wonder if the laws and customs could possibly be so different than the ones we have now. In this case Isabel is a strong confident women who has learned how to be successful in a business world dominated by men while Princess Elizabeth wants so badly to be Queen she is willing to do whatever it takes.

Because I spent the whole day reading and neglected most, not all, of my chores I will spend this day catching up. John came in this morning and said “Ah, you are actually doing something today”. My biggest problem …he worked at home yesterday, John just doesn't understand "I am the Queen Elizabeth of this home".
